My Aha! Moment With “Stretch It”: How Teach2030 Transformed My Classroom in Nigeria

by Halim Giwa, Nigeria

My experience with Stretch It started way back in 2017. I remember reading an article about it and feeling absolutely convinced that I understood the concept. In fact, I was so sure of myself that I began using what I believed was Stretch It in my classroom immediately.

To be honest, I did not get the proper concept. Well… I thought I did.

Little did I know that for many years, I was using No Opt Out, proudly thinking it was Stretch It. I carried that confidence for so long until everything changed.

The turning point came when I had the golden chance to take the Practical Active Learning course on Teach2030. And let me tell you, I was flabbergasted when I discovered how far I had been from the right usage. It felt like someone opened a door I didn’t even know existed.

From that moment, my classroom in Nigeria was never the same again.

For educators who may not know, Stretch It is a technique that pushes students to deepen their thinking. Instead of stopping at the correct answer, Stretch It encourages learners to explain why the answer works, how they arrived at it, and what reasoning guided their choices.

It’s not about getting the answer it’s about understanding the thinking behind it.

When I finally understood this through Teach2030, it was like unlocking a new dimension of teaching.

Before Teach2030, my teaching style was very traditional. I explained concepts from start to finish, and students followed along. But after learning the proper approach, I shifted my classroom from teacher‑centered instruction to student‑centered exploration.

Instead of giving the full explanation, I began laying the foundation and letting students drag ideas across the class. And trust me, it is always amazing to watch.

The focus was no longer on the final answer. It became about:

  • the why behind the answer
  • the approach they chose
  • the reasoning behind that approach
  • the connections they could make

This was deep learning. Real learning.

The Transformation I Witnessed

Confidence among learners grew like a miracle. One would have thought a magic wand was being used in the class.

The ever‑passive learners, the ones who rarely spoke suddenly got involved. They started sharing ideas, asking questions, and challenging each other. The classroom became fun, engaging, and full of energy. Every lesson felt alive. Students weren’t just participating; they were thinking, exploring, and owning their learning. And as a teacher, watching that transformation was one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

If you’re an educator anywhere in the world, I want to say this clearly:

Stretch It is a game‑changer.

It pushes students beyond memorization into true understanding. It builds confidence. It transforms passive learners into active thinkers. And it turns your classroom into a vibrant learning community. But most importantly, it transforms you as a teacher. My aha moment happened because of Teach2030 and the Practical Active Learning course. That course corrected years of misunderstanding and opened my eyes to what active learning truly looks like.

If you want to grow, refine your teaching, and experience the kind of transformation I did, I strongly encourage you to join Teach2030. It is worth every moment.

Your students will feel the difference.
Your classroom will change.
And you will never teach the same way again.
