At Teach2030, it is rewarding to hear that schools and teachers are benefitting from our resources and award winning TPD. Him Jyoti, a school in India, and our partner school with the Helga Todd Foundation, is spotlighted this month for their enthusiastic participation in a range of Teach2030 activities that we provide. This is the first of a short series of blogs featuring this school.
Him Jyoti is an all-girls school in Dehradun, India, with 280 girls and approximately 25 teachers; their teachers are passionate and caring for their students, so much so that they frequently undertake Teach2030 TPD to further their skills and understanding of pedagogy in the classroom – 23 users have enrolled and many have completed over 6 of our courses.
The Helga Todd Foundation has introduced Him Jyoti to Teach2030, sponsoring and enabling them to complete 4 key courses: Growth Mindset, Fresh Thinking, Practical Active Learning and Planning Lessons to Reach All Learners. With additional advice and guidance of their UK facilitators, Him Jyoti teachers have successfully completed these courses and been given the confidence to undertake other free Teach2030 activities.
Following his completion of our Planning Lessons to Reach All Learners course, which focuses on the process of planning an effective lesson, Aishwarya Jakmola, a teacher of mathematics, says, ‘The Planning Lessons module has been extremely helpful in enhancing my skills as a teacher. It guided me in writing clear and effective learning objectives, ensuring that they align with the overall goals of the lesson. Additionally, I learned how to design a lesson plan that is flexible and easily adaptable for classroom use. The module also taught me how to write activity objectives that directly support and complement the main learning objectives of the class, ensuring a cohesive and purposeful learning experience for the students.’

Having taken the same course, Kanchan Samant, a teacher of English and social sciences, states that ‘The Planning Lessons module has helped me create structured and engaging lesson plans that align with learning objectives and ensure that my lessons have a clear introduction and main activity. I also incorporate interactive elements such as group discussions, presentations and real-life examples to make learning more meaningful for students.’

It is wonderful to hear how much this Teach2030 course is supporting our teachers practically in the classroom, allowing students to develop further and more successfully in their learning journeys.
To celebrate Commonwealth Day, Teach2030 ran a competition for our schools that connected TPD knowledge and experience with student participation in a fun, encouraging way. Our Year of the Youth and One Big Question competitions gained the most entries from teachers at the Him Jyoti school. It was a privilege to see the results of our TPD in action through their engaging and insightful videos; there were some wonderful entries from Him Jyoti students. Winners this year were Kanchan Samant, Aakansha Bisht, and Anil Thapa – all from this fabulous school. It was clear that teachers had committed to embedding the strategies learnt from the competition course, as their entries were well-prepared and thoughtfully presented. Thank you to all who entered.

It is only with great leadership that success and change can truly occur. Headteachers hold great power and influence, as they are role models for all their teachers. Their headteacher, Ruma Malhotra, is playing a supportive and encouraging role within the school.
Thank you to all of the Him Jyoti teachers for being active participants, not only with Teach2030 but by championing your own professional development and the progress of your students. Our special thanks must also be extended to the Helga Todd Foundation for being such a valued partner. Together, we are striving to improve education standards worldwide.
